About Your Host: The Heart Behind Matsubara Container House
Finding Inspiration in Every Turn
Welcome to Tsuruga, and thank you for considering a stay at Matsubara Container House. My name is Ike (Iker Gomez Goroztieta) — a photographer, designer, storyteller, and long-term local resident who has called this quiet coastal town home for more than 15 years.

I first arrived in Tsuruga through the JET Programme in 2009, planning to stay only a year or two. Instead, this peaceful corner of Fukui slowly became home — not because of convenience or nightlife, but because of something simpler: wide open beaches, long pine forests, slow roads through farmland, and the feeling that life here invites you to breathe a little deeper.

Over time, I built a creative production studio called Black Anchor Productions, working with local businesses, tourism projects, and photography clients all over Fukui. Through that work, I learned every season, coastline, hidden beach, small shrine, and early-morning light this region has to offer. Photography became less of a hobby and more of a way to understand the landscape.

Why I Built This House
In 2021, I designed and constructed Matsubara Container House using two 40-foot high-cube shipping containers. I wanted to create a modern, quiet, personal retreat where guests could feel the calm and beauty that drew me to Tsuruga in the first place.
The space is intentionally simple and comfortable: natural light, a bright living room, a fully equipped kitchen, a private terrace for BBQ evenings, and quiet nights under the pine trees. It’s not a corporate rental — it’s a home with a story, built slowly and intentionally, right here in the community I love.
